The RSReportServer.config is one of several configuration files, but it is the main configuration file for both the Report Server Web service and Report Manager. In Reporting Services 2005, Report Manager had a separate configuration file named RSWebApplication.config, but this file is no longer used in Reporting Services 2008. The RSReportServer.config file is found in the %Program Files%\Microsoft SQL Server\ MSRS10.<InstanceName>\Reporting Services\ReportServer\ folder. The settings in Reporting Services Configuration Manager are saved as configuration entries in the RSReportServer.config file. However, the configuration manager also performs critical steps that are not handled by a configuration file, such as creating the virtual Web directories and generating the application as well as creating the structures and initial entries in the report catalog when a new database is specified. Nonetheless, the RSReportServer.config file contains many more advanced settings and properties that are not available to set within Reporting Services Configuration Manager or through the report server properties in SSMS.

A common configuration setting in RSReportServer.config is to limit the user choices for the report rendering. For example, if you wanted to exclude Microsoft Office Excel as a choice for rendering reports, you would look for the entries under the <Render> tag in the XML .config file to find the following line:

<Extension Name="EXCEL" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.ExcelRenderer. ExcelRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.ExcelRendering"/>

The active policy should be your telnet policy. The time it changed might help you identify which policy was changed. However, if you inspected both policies, this might not be helpful.

How to add Barcode to Local Reports ( RDLC ) before report ...
In the following guide we'll create a local report ( RDLC file) which features barcoding capabilities by using Bytescout Barcode SDK. Follow these steps:.

In this practice, you use RSKeyMgmt.exe to back up and restore an encryption key to experience the importance of having a backup copy of the symmetric encryption key. The practice exercise assumes that the default SSRS instance was installed on your local computer and was configured to use the default settings during installation. The command-line examples in this practice are in the Lesson 2 Practice Exercise Code.txt file in the ..\Source\Ch 13\ folder of the installed practice files.
